Detect::OS
This is one of my old modules, yet to be release. It provides an advanced OO interface to OS Detection. What you would normally use $^O for, but this provided an extensible system for finding home directories, what versions of what software was installed and more.
I will try and pubish it here soon, but it is not yet CPAN worthy.
